Another Happy Customer!

To all at Rainbow Sugarcraft - especially Jamie. Just wanted to say a huge "thank you" for your help in getting me the masses of "stuff" I ordered to make my sister's wedding cake, for getting it all to me on-time and for your help and advice along the way. I love baking, but am by no means any kind of expert, so making something so important was a bit of a challenge (as was the 8 hour journey, by car-train-car.) It won't measure up to the fantastic confections pictured on your web-site, but here's a a photo of the finished article.

The hotel managed to lose the sugar spray (genius), so I've just been onto your site to order a replacement. I also managed to drum-up another order for you at the wedding. One of the other guests happened to mention (as you do) that he was trying to find a Champagne Sabre, so I was able to direct him to you since I'd seen one on your site whilst I was looking at the cake knives. Anyhow, thanks again, for a truly one-stop shop for all my cake making needs and for that most rare of things... proper old-fashioned good personal service. Jamie, you're a star.

Best Wedding Cake Sword for 2010!

This has to be the Champagne Sabrage! This georgeously presented saber has a romantic history and makes a wonderful knife for ceremoniously cutting Wedding Cakes.

According to history the French Cavalry would ride into battle with a bottle of Champagne and with a skillful flick of the wrist cut the neck of the bottle clean open. Cork, cake and bottle neck all come away in one piece - an amazing sight to see. Even today the Champagne houses practice the art, the cork flying a huge distance followed by an impressive spray of champagne.

Now whilst we would not recommend trying this at the venue this beautiful sword also looks stunning on the cake cutting photographs and can be engraved with your names, Wedding date and Wedding Venue. This unusual Wedding cake knife comes in a fully lined wooden presentation box and makes a lovely souvenir of your very special day.
Engraved Champagne Sabrage Wedding Cake swords are available from the followink link:-

Favourite Wedding Cake of 2010

We like to try to predict which will be the most popular cake design for the New Year and for 2010 we're guessing a main contender would be the Diamante Drape Wedding Cake. This is a fairly simple design from our Classic Wedding Cakes range and can be created with a sparkling Snowflake White Icing or with a warmer Ivory Pearl finish.

The cake has a taffeta effect icing drape and is encircled with a band of diamantes. The sugar rose decorations are hand crafted and finished with a satin effect dust. Sparkling diamantes embellish each rose nestling in the Wedding Cake icing.
This design would also look stunning with roses in pastel shades as well as a Rich Burgundy Red or Ebony Black. The diamantes can also be supplied in a range of other sparkling colours to match your theme and, of course, you can have whatever flavour of Wedding cake you prefer, or even three different layers!

Happy New Year!

We ended 2009 and began 2010 with Croquembouche deliveries in treacherous conditions! Croquembouche are, of course, those tall traditional French Wedding Cakes, carefully constructed and for which you'd probably never get planning permission in Scotland.

There was heavy snow on both ocassions and finding a mansion house in Edinburgh after dark only added to the drama. The trusty Rainbow mobile battled through traffic, blinded by snow, on icy roads and we set up the croquembouche in a wind buffeted marquee.

The first croqeumbouche of 2010 was begun at 5am; freshly baked choux buns permeating the studio with a pleasing aroma of vanilla. Filled with homemade creme pattiserie the choux buns were assembled with hot caramel into a tower, which would be presented on a purpose made stand, covered in fresh fruits and greenery. With heavy snow falling David set-off early to deliver the croquembouche, with back up four wheel drive transport arranged, just in case of problems.

When he arrived at the Roxburghe Hotel the sun broke through just in time for the photographs, which must have been stunning, with such an awesome wintry backdrop.
