S'now Joke Delivering Wedding Cakes in Scotland!

It's been a serious business delivering Wedding Cakes this last seven days and today it's snowing again, heavily! Thank Goodness the trusty Rainbow Mobiles have been up to the challenge and once they are dug out they have managed to deliver Wedding Cakes and Croquembouches to Glasgow, Edinburgh, the North of England, Dumfries, Gretna and even Aberdeen.

It's very much the case of keeping an eye on the weather forecast and allowing plenty of time, some Wedding Cake deliveries taking twice as long as normal. So we are really pleased with our 'snow mobiles' but if things get really bad we also have two four by fours on call so even if the guests don't arrive the cake will!

Celebrity Wedding at Skibo Castle

Rainbow Sugarcraft were delighted to be commissioned to create this stunning five feet high cake for the recent Wedding of a beautiful young actress and her internationally famous entrepreneur husband. The venue was Skibo Castle, set on the outskirts of the picturesque Highland village of Dornock, where Madonna tied the knot some ten years ago.

The richly layered Wedding Cake was displayed in the exquisite panelled Library of Skibo Castle, sunlight streaming through the windows to back light over two hundred handcrafted giant sugar roses. The theme for the cake was champagne, ivory and white and each delicate sugar rose was added individually on the morning of the Wedding.

The highly professional and friendly staff at Skibo Castle could not have been more helpful. Cheerful and muscular young chefs and porters were on hand to help us move the multi tiered cakes sections and someone was always available with iced water and encouraging banter to calm the nerves of two occasionally stressed cake decorators.

Final decoration was added with the use of a handy Library ladder, (always wanted to go up one of those!)
Skibo Castle is without doubt exceptional and building this amazing cake in such an outstanding venue has been one of the highlights of our cake decorating careers. Thank you once again to all the staff, from the highly efficient Wedding co-ordinators to the hard working kitchen porters everyone was extremely helpful and friendly; we hope to see you all again soon.

Designer Chocolate Wedding Cakes

I would just like to say a very big thank you for the most beautiful cake that you made for Tim & Laura's wedding at Blair Estate. The cake not only looked stunning but it tasted wonderful, the Battenburg layer I am assured was delicious, but no-one got a taste of that layer as it went back to Hong Kong with Tim and Laura, as it was Laura's special surprise.

The cake was a big topic of conversation on the day and no one could actually believe until they tasted them, that they were actually maltesers, they shone so much in the spotlights. People are still commenting on it and the name of your company has been passed on to a great number of people, they were so impressed.

Have a look at the photo's on the Blair Facebook page under Easter Wedding, if you get chance.
Apologies for the delay in sending a photo but Tim & Laura were caught up in the volcano fracas and had an unexpected extended honeymoon in Brazil, which meant a delay in obtaining photo's.
I had every confidence when choosing your company and after talking to you via e mail and phone, I knew I had made the right decision and you gave Tim & Laura the fun cake that was exactly what they wanted.

Thank you once again.
With Regards
Hilary Clough, Nottingham

Dragon Wedding Cakes

Dear Rainbow Sugarcraft Team,

We just wanted to say a massive thank you for creating our fantastic Dragon wedding cake! I don't know if you remember, but the cake was a surprise for Chris, the Groom, and he absolutely loved it. The Dragon was exactly as I'd asked for, and the amount of time, effort and creativity that you all must have put into it was evident.

Even the miniature Bride and Groom were so perfect, everyone was so impressed and still talk about it even now.

Sorry it's taken us so long to write to thank you, but we wanted to share some photos taken by our photographer and we've only recently received them.

As well as looking amazing, it also tasted amazing. The morning after, the Dragon was laid in the hotel reception with still around half of the cake to eat. The hotel staff were adamant that they salvaged the head…. we still have the head, wings and little Sandra and Chris as a keepsake.

Again, thank you for your imagination, your wonderful service and attention to the finest detail. You created a wedding cake that we will never forget.

All our best wishes to you all, Sandra and Chris Little

Naming Day Cake

It's always lovely to get repeat business, though possibly not something you should expect when making Wedding Cakes! Erin and Sean married several years ago and came back to us for baby Genevieve Rose's Naming Day Cake. The wild rose flowers were an obvious choice and as Erin and Sean are both Biologists they asked us to include a selection of 'cute' bugs.

We've just received this message and some lovely photographs...

"We loved the cake! It was beautiful (a real show stopper) and tasted heavenly (no one believed it was gluten free.) Genevieve was fascinated by the cake and had to be held back!! We had a wonderful day, Genevieve was on good form and the whole day was made even more special to have one of your cakes in another family celebration..."

Spring Wedding Cakes

Our vibrantly coloured 'Spring Wedding Cake' seems to have finally heralded the arrival of Spring in Scotland. Decorated with a cascade of beautifully shaded sugar daffodils, tulips, gerbera and freesias it was a real eye-catching design.

After the deluge of snow we suffered last week we're hoping brighter days now lie ahead for a long summer of sunshine blessed Wedding parties and more gloriously decorated Summer Wedding cake designs.

Comlongon Castle Wedding Fayre

Our last Wedding Fair for the Spring was at Comlongon Castle, one of the loveliest venues near Gretna. The Fayre was very well attended and also saw the opening of the most stunning luxury honeymoon Lodge at Comlongon; surely a once in a lifetime experience for any one who stays there.

We took along ten new cake designs as well as some novel cookie place name favour ideas. One of the most eye-catching Wedding Cakes on show was the Ribbon Cascade. The cakes are simply finished with twists of ribbon and decorated with either fresh or silk flowers in any choice of colour scheme.

The day flew by, we were so busy chatting to brides about their Wedding Cake ideas and taking bookings and there was the usual lovely atmosphere for which the Castle is so well renowned. So well done to all the Team at Comlongon for hosting such a successful and enjoyable event.

Another Happy Customer!

To all at Rainbow Sugarcraft - especially Jamie. Just wanted to say a huge "thank you" for your help in getting me the masses of "stuff" I ordered to make my sister's wedding cake, for getting it all to me on-time and for your help and advice along the way. I love baking, but am by no means any kind of expert, so making something so important was a bit of a challenge (as was the 8 hour journey, by car-train-car.) It won't measure up to the fantastic confections pictured on your web-site, but here's a a photo of the finished article.

The hotel managed to lose the sugar spray (genius), so I've just been onto your site to order a replacement. I also managed to drum-up another order for you at the wedding. One of the other guests happened to mention (as you do) that he was trying to find a Champagne Sabre, so I was able to direct him to you since I'd seen one on your site whilst I was looking at the cake knives. Anyhow, thanks again, for a truly one-stop shop for all my cake making needs and for that most rare of things... proper old-fashioned good personal service. Jamie, you're a star.

Best Wedding Cake Sword for 2010!

This has to be the Champagne Sabrage! This georgeously presented saber has a romantic history and makes a wonderful knife for ceremoniously cutting Wedding Cakes.

According to history the French Cavalry would ride into battle with a bottle of Champagne and with a skillful flick of the wrist cut the neck of the bottle clean open. Cork, cake and bottle neck all come away in one piece - an amazing sight to see. Even today the Champagne houses practice the art, the cork flying a huge distance followed by an impressive spray of champagne.

Now whilst we would not recommend trying this at the venue this beautiful sword also looks stunning on the cake cutting photographs and can be engraved with your names, Wedding date and Wedding Venue. This unusual Wedding cake knife comes in a fully lined wooden presentation box and makes a lovely souvenir of your very special day.
Engraved Champagne Sabrage Wedding Cake swords are available from the followink link:-

Favourite Wedding Cake of 2010

We like to try to predict which will be the most popular cake design for the New Year and for 2010 we're guessing a main contender would be the Diamante Drape Wedding Cake. This is a fairly simple design from our Classic Wedding Cakes range and can be created with a sparkling Snowflake White Icing or with a warmer Ivory Pearl finish.

The cake has a taffeta effect icing drape and is encircled with a band of diamantes. The sugar rose decorations are hand crafted and finished with a satin effect dust. Sparkling diamantes embellish each rose nestling in the Wedding Cake icing.
This design would also look stunning with roses in pastel shades as well as a Rich Burgundy Red or Ebony Black. The diamantes can also be supplied in a range of other sparkling colours to match your theme and, of course, you can have whatever flavour of Wedding cake you prefer, or even three different layers!

Happy New Year!

We ended 2009 and began 2010 with Croquembouche deliveries in treacherous conditions! Croquembouche are, of course, those tall traditional French Wedding Cakes, carefully constructed and for which you'd probably never get planning permission in Scotland.

There was heavy snow on both ocassions and finding a mansion house in Edinburgh after dark only added to the drama. The trusty Rainbow mobile battled through traffic, blinded by snow, on icy roads and we set up the croquembouche in a wind buffeted marquee.

The first croqeumbouche of 2010 was begun at 5am; freshly baked choux buns permeating the studio with a pleasing aroma of vanilla. Filled with homemade creme pattiserie the choux buns were assembled with hot caramel into a tower, which would be presented on a purpose made stand, covered in fresh fruits and greenery. With heavy snow falling David set-off early to deliver the croquembouche, with back up four wheel drive transport arranged, just in case of problems.

When he arrived at the Roxburghe Hotel the sun broke through just in time for the photographs, which must have been stunning, with such an awesome wintry backdrop.
